The region’s School Safety and Security Cooperative held its 2015-2016 school year kickoff event on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Leaders gathered together to explore the important issue of Threat Assessment in schools and collaborate with community partners to discuss plans to prevent and mitigate safety and security risks to students and staff.
Guest speaker Marci Scott, School Safety Consultant, provided an overview of the core components of a school threat assessment model that included both school and district level teams. Her nationally recognized best practice in school emergency preparedness program has supported schools to bridge gaps related to emergency plan development including Threat Assessment policy and procedures.
Attendees had the opportunity to meet with their local city, county and regional emergency, fire and law officials and discuss the challenges, concerns and needs that are specific to schools in their area.
Our efforts to foster safe, secure and supportive learning environments in our school communities continue.
