On September 23, 2024, Kristyne York was honored as the 2025 Regional Teacher of the Year during a North Mason School Board meeting, receiving the award from OESD 114 Superintendent Aaron Leavell and Board Director Bruce Richards.
With over three decades of teaching experience since 1989, Kristyne has made a significant impact in various educational settings, including teaching piano, directing ensembles, and founding an innovative private school. She joined the North Mason School District in 2019 and currently teaches at James Taylor High School in Belfair.
Kristyne is known for her exceptional commitment to student success in a comprehensive alternative high school environment. Her versatile role includes teaching math, supporting Multilingual Learners, coordinating testing, and providing vital support to students in need. Her selfless volunteerism and strong community ties highlight her dedication to both staff and students.
A champion of personalized instruction, Kristyne believes in nurturing strong relationships to create inclusive classrooms. She frames teaching as a vital societal contribution, focusing on instilling hope, resilience, and self-worth in her students. Colleagues and parents alike commend her commitment, collaboration, and ability to inspire students.
