    Wood & Paper Curriculum Calendar

    The calendar below is to support teachers in planning for teaching the Wood & Paper FOSS Science Kit. Use the calendar links below to identify: big science ideas, key standard targets for each lesson, and assessments. 
     

    Weeks 1 and 2 - Getting to Know Wood

    Is all wood the same? How do we know? What everyday objects are made of wood? How are solids and liquids different? What property of paperclips makes them useful to sink wood? How many paper clips does it take to sink wood?

    Weeks 3 and 4 - Changing Wood

     How small can a particle of wood be? How are sawdust and wood shavings different? Similar? How is particle board made? What parts make up plywood?

    Weeks 5 and 6 - Getting to Know Paper

    Is all the paper the same? How do we know? What properties of paper make it good for writing and drawing? What property of paper makes it harder to fold? How will liquid water change solid paper?

     Week 7 - Changing Paper

     How is paper recycled? What parts are needed to make paper mache?

     Weeks 8 and 9 - Constructions

    How are boxes made? What materials are made by weaving? How many different sculptures can be made from wood and paper?
